Hello, friends! It is only a few days into the month of June and already June gloom seems to have settled in for a nice, long stay. I have to admit that is nice and cool in the mornings, but it can also be grossly humid and the sun usually burns off the layer of mist by the afternoon. The only reason I mention this is because it makes it a challenge to get dressed. I wanted to add a bit of bright color to my day this morning with my outfit, but June gloom won me over and I decided instead on mixing textures and trends; here’s the result:
I am wearing a dip hem knit top with stud details on the shoulders (Marshall’s) over a pair of dark skinny jeans (Old Navy) rolled at the hem. I paired this outfit with my black faux snakeskin gladiator sandals (Sam Edelman, old) and accessorized with black and gold skull earrings (ModCloth), a dainty gold mustache bracelet (ModCloth) and a gold and black elephant pendant necklace (H&M).
I bought this top a few months ago and I have loved throwing it on with just about everything ever since. I have already worn it with leggings, denim shorts and, of course, skinny jeans and it always add style to any ensemble. The dip hem and metal studs on the shoulders are super trendy, but the great cut and shape are what make me want to wear this top again and again.
These gladiator sandals are actually from several years ago when the trend first became popular, but I’ve been noticing a bit of a resurgence; and, since I hardly ever wear these (in fact, this might be the first time I’ve ever worn them on my blog), I decided to give them another try. I like how the dark sandal helps to ground the outfit, while the layers of straps and the shiny faux snakeskin texture add some much needed shine and fun detail.
I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to mix metals since the studs are silver and all the other metals I am wearing are gold, but I think in this case it works somehow. What do you think? Is mixing metals a fashion faux pas or are the “rules” meant to be broken??
Thanks for reading, have a great week! :)
