DIY: Inspiring Quotes

September 13, 2013

Hello, friends!  I just want to say a quick sorry, sorry, sorry!  I realize my posts have been somewhat sporadic lately, but I have been so busy and I feel like I am being pulled in a million different directions.  BUT I am definitely not complaining!  There’s actually nothing I like more than having a full schedule and being completely, and happily, exhausted at the end of each day.

As busy as I have been, I have managed to squeeze in at least a little time for a project I have had in mind for a while now.  One of my favorite boards on Pinterest is my “Quotable” board filled with, you guessed it, inspiring quotes.  While cleaning my room recently, I managed to clear a couple shelves on my bookcase to fill with knick-knacks, gifts and picture frames that I’ve collected over the years.  I decided this would be the perfect space to fill with some inspiring quotes.

The first quote is one of my favorites that I actually have featured on my “About Me” page.  I copied the quote and placed it on a simple, water-color style polka dot background and added a simple embellishment.  I knew I wanted this quote to be more simple because the frame itself (a gift from a friend, isn’t the cutest?!) has a lot of detail in it.  Here’s the art:

The next quote is really just a simple phrase that I think we could all do with remembering from time to time.  Plus, I decided that seeing such a friendly thought every morning would help add a dose of positivity to my day, and who doesn’t want that?!  ;)

The last quote is straight from Pinterest and, as soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for my Marilyn Monroe frame.  A birthday gift from several years ago, I have had trouble deciding what would be just right for this frame, but I think this pop-art style Marilyn Monroe quote hits the mark.  (This piece of art is all over the internet so I couldn’t find an original source.  If anyone knows who to credit for this, I’d love to share the info!)

In case you are wondering, I found both backgrounds for the first two quotes I created from my collection of patterns by ReproDepot.  I have both the Flora and Folk books which include 225 kitschy, cute and multi-purpose patterns each (click the links to peek inside each book on Amazon).  The book has each pattern printed inside for a sample as well as large format JPEG’s of each pattern on a CD which are super simple to edit.

It really couldn’t be easier to create such simple art for a shelf or your wall.  In fact, I have a ton more quotes and a ton more ideas for creating inspiring artwork, so don’t be surprised if you see more!  As always, thanks for reading :), Kristi

**(These patterns are fine to use for personal projects, but definitely not okay for commercial use so please if you are going to “borrow” any of the art I created, keep in mind that I created it with samples from another source so make sure to give credit where credit is due and please don’t use it for commercial purposes.  Thanks!)
