Midi Skirt & Crop Top {Me-Made-May}

May 31, 2014

Hello, friends!  Can you believe the month of May is already over??  I’m having a hard time believing that my birthday has come and gone, let alone the entire month!  But, since I haven’t posted my Me-Made-May outfit for this week, I thought I would make it a good one, with not one but TWO refashioned items, AND a handmade flower crown!  (Just in case you missed it, I originally posted this outfit over on PinsPlace during our Birth Month Blog Swap – here.)

I am wearing a striped shirt, which I hemmed into a crop top, and a midi-length floral skirt, which I refashioned by adding the elastic waist (here).  Both midi skirts and crop tops are in fashion right now, so I thought thrifting and refashioning would be great ways to try the trends without investing a lot of money into items I’m not sure I’ll wear much.

I do love this skirt, especially for the pockets, but I’m still not sure the length is all that flattering for my proportions.  The crop top was surprisingly a lot of fun to wear, so I think I’ll be trying it out with other outfits.  I also had some fun making this little flower headband, and I’m working on a couple versions, so when I find the right one, I’ll be sure to share a tutorial!!

Well, this outfit wraps up my first attempt at Me-Made-May.  I had a lot of fun wearing some of the pieces that I’ve either made or refashioned, but I realized after looking back over the month, I have A TON more stuff that I’ve made that I didn’t get to wear at all.  I think this was a great first attempt, but I can’t wait until next year when I am definitely going to be wearing more than one item per week!

Here’s the round-up in case you missed any:

RoundUp

Week 1 – Handmade deer print sweatshirt top
Week 2 – Refashioned denim shorts (from thrifted jeans)
Week 3 – Dress-to-skirt refashion tutorial (with a video!)
Week 4 – Refashioned crop top & refashioned midi skirt (this post!)

As always, thanks for reading!  Have a great weekend!  – Kristi :)

    I love both, the skirt and the crop top *o* I was thinking about buying a crop top since it has been on sale the last few weeks. I am a bit worried about my belly though. It is not that big, but still, it is not flat. But now after seeing your post, it would fit well with high waist skirts :)
    I wish I could also wear midi skirts, but I am too small (1.60 m). And don’t worry, the skirt fits perfectly to your proportions :)

      Thanks!! Yeah, I’m not really the belly baring type, but I think a crop top is surprisingly easy to pull off with a high waist skirt and much more stylish! :)

    Ummm Love ALL of this! I love that you hemmed the shirt to make it a crop top and how you styled it with the longer skirt! Super cute pairing, per usual!!
