Autumnal Equinox & Projects Galore!

September 23, 2014

Hello, friends, and Happy First Day of Fall!  Are you excited about the changing of the seasons?  Fall is my favorite season because it’s the busiest time of year (and I like being busy); so full of new possibilities and the chance to get started on, or finish up, those projects you’ve been meaning to accomplish before the end of the year.  I, for one, have been a busy bee and am currently working on a bunch of fun projects!

Since I am currently in the midst of several projects at once (typical me), I figured I would just share some sneak peeks instead of waiting until everything is all done at once.  You know, so as not to leave you hanging because you’re just dying to know what I’m working on that you had no idea I was working on in the first place.  What?  I have no idea.  Let’s look at pretty pictures now!

Room Updates:

I have been working on my room for what feels like forever (like, really, probably over a year now), updating it completely and adding a totally customized workspace for all of my sewing, crafting and general DIY awesomeness (and the occasional bit of actual “work”).  So far, although it’s coming along slowly, it is coming along beautifully!

I am so excited about all of the massive changes I’ve made and even more excited about the fact that I am almost done!  But, I’m not quite done yet, so today all you get is a sneak peek of the latest project: a custom cork board inspiration wall.  I bought some inexpensive cork board tiles, and simply added the double-sided adhesive backing as well as a decorative washi tape border.  There’s also a giant map, but perhaps I’ve said too much already!  ;)

Don’t worry, I plan on doing a full room tour and sharing all of the fun changes I’ve made as soon as it’s done!  In the meantime, here’s a couple detail shots of the finished product:

Free Spoonflower Fabric:

That’s right, I said free, because I won three whole yards of this gorgeous “performance pique” fabric in a Spoonflower giveaway.  In case you’ve never heard of Spoonflower, it’s an amazing website where you can design your own fabric, wallpaper and gift wrap paper, or choose from hundreds upon hundreds of absolutely awesome user-submitted designs (which is what I did).  They have all kinds of fabric and paper for you to choose from in a variety of lengths.  It can be a little pricey, but with the high quality and custom design option, it can be totally worth it!

I plan on using this stretchy, silky fabric to make a fun knit dress using this pattern from my Sew U: Home Stretch pattern book.  It’s almost like a skater style dress but with a slightly higher empire waist.  I think it will be really cute and I can’t wait to get started, but it’s been temporarily put on hold because of my next sewing project…..

Gryffindor Cosplay Robe:

That’s right, I said it, I’ve been working on a cosplay costume for a local comic book convention that’s coming up this weekend!  As you have probably learned by now (or maybe not), I am a huge Harry Potter fan.  I devoured the books, adored the movies, and basically grew up with Harry, Ron and Hermione as favored fictional companions.  This is nerdy.  And I know it.  But, I am SO excited haha!

My robe is coming along spectacularly and I am so excited to be sewing it myself, but I don’t want to give too much away because I definitely plan on posting lots more!  I will, however, give you a sneaky (and shameless) cell phone selfie of the finished “Gryffindor red” lining:

Well, those are the big projects I have going on at the moment.  Now that my workspace is really coming along in my room, it’s been so much easier to sew and craft in my free time, and I just couldn’t be more excited!

Do you have any exciting projects you want to share that you’ve been working on??

As always, thanks for reading!  Love & wizardry, Kristi :)

OMG, so cute! I can’t wait to see how these projects turn out! If you ever figure out how to make a Hogwarts robe for a dog let me know – I would love to dress up Luna after her namesake :) Right now I’m getting ready to start painting some foam pumpkins with a chevron pattern for fall and a few lyric art pieces with some clearance Target canvases. But that’s as close to crafty as I get :) – Brianna
