New Year, Renewed Style | Thrift Style Thursday

January 8, 2015

Hurray!  Thrift Style Thursday’s are officially back and I could not be more excited!!  As I mentioned in last week’s post, we now have weekly hosts who come up with the theme for the week and get an extra-special mention.  So, without further ado, kicking things off this week is Zhenya of Being Zhenya with the theme “New Year’s Resolution!”

I have two style resolutions for this year, and they are pretty simple: 1. Kick it up a notch, and 2. more refashions!  I really had fun with my personal style last year, so I really want to keep that momentum going and try to get out of my usual jeans and a t-shirt rut as much as possible.  And, of course, I want to do a whole lot more refashions!

To kick off my style resolution for this year, I am wearing a refashioned romper with a thrifted sweater and my favorite thrifted booties – casual, cool and definitely NOT boring old jeans-and-a-t-shirt!

As I mentioned in my post earlier this week, I went for a fun outing with my mom on Sunday.  First, we stopped at local museum, Muzeo, to check out the “Quilts” exhibition, which was fantastic (read the post to see more)!  Then, we topped it off with a stop at the Anaheim Packing District to get some dessert.  Along the way, I managed to convince my mom to take some photos of my thrifted outfit (thanks, Mom!).

The Packing District is an old Sunkist packing plant that has been converted into a hipster foodie destination with restaurants of all kinds, communal seating and oftentimes live music.  It’s pretty hip, but also there’s lots of yummy, yummy food.  :)

I’m hoping to do more refashions this year as well! I really slacked the past couple of months, but I’m looking forward to my schedule being more available for me to get some done!

Love the outfit! I love to refashion things as well, but unfortunately where I live now we don’t have good thrift stores, so I haven’t done anything in a long time. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you, Stephanie!! Refashions are fun, and the beauty of transforming clothes is that you can create anything you want! Sometimes it just takes a fresh perspective, even in a less than ideal thrift store, to see the potential in a garment! Try not to get discouraged, and happy thrifting and refashioning!! :)

Thanks, Beth!! I love this red sweater, but I don’t wear it often enough so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to remix it! I am so excited to do more sewing and more refashions this year!! :)

Thanks, Martyna! Ooh great idea! I will have to put on my thinking cap, but there are lots of ways to refashion a garment without sewing!! I’m on it! :)

Love this look on you and the boots are a total score! Aaaand I’m jealous that this is what you get to wear…as we experience negative temps here in Jersey :( But I love your resolution to refashion more and I’m excited to see your creations!

Hooray for thrifting! I miss thrifting in the states! First thing I do when I move back is to unpack, re-assess my wardrobe and get myself to the nearest Salvation Army! I also can’t wait to have my sewing machine back! Bring on the repurposing!
