I don’t know about you, but I could always use more glitter in my life! I am not typically a very glitzy, glam-it-up type of gal; but, a little bit of sparkle every now and then makes life more fun. After all, life should be a celebration, and what’s more celebratory than glitter??
This tutorial is quick and easy, so let’s get started!
- earring posts & backs
- any type of tacky glue
- a strong adhesive
- any type of sealer (you can even use top coat!)
To start off, grab two matching buttons – use any size you like, from tiny and delicate to big and bold, but make sure they have a deep “well” for holding the glitter. Next, use tacky glue to fill the button. Tacky glue is easier to use for the glitter than the stronger adhesive, which is why I recommend the two different glues, but it’s totally up to you!
Once you’ve got a layer of glue, generously cover the glue with glitter. I started by sprinkling on a covering of glitter, then pressing the glitter into place to make sure it was firmly packed. Clean up and remove any excess glitter and allow the glue to dry. (Follow the instructions on the glue to know how long it takes to dry/cure.)
After the glitter is set, attach the earring posts to the buttons with a dab of adhesive. The adhesive should set fairly quickly, but read the instructions to know how long it takes to fully dry. Once it is set, however, you can seal the glitter in place with a coat of acrylic (a simple top coat nail polish will suffice, as well).
Let your new earrings dry (and all of the glues/adhesives cure) completely before wearing. If you feel the glitter needs another coat of sealant, use it! You don’t want your earrings to shed or lose any of their fabulous glitter. ;)
I cannot wait to wear my new earrings for Valentine’s Day! My family is having a dinner party in celebration of my sister’s recent marriage. It will be so much fun to spend the day with my whole family – celebrating love with everyone I love!
