Wow, I feel like I have so much to catch up on that I’m not sure where to start. I just realized that I haven’t been blogging regularly at all since before I left for my UK trip, and since I got back, it has been non-stop life stuff, ya know?! But I actually started to shift my focus a while ago… I feel as though I have been going through the motions for Thrift Style Thursday posts and even Monthly Mani’s, looking for the motivation because I want to do so much more with this blog.
Which brings me to the actual subject of today’s post – sewing projects! I have been keeping sewing on the sidelines for a long time now, but after getting back from my last trip, I realized that I want to make sewing a priority. There are few things that bring me the same joy, focus and passion as sewing; so, if I want to pursue making a living with a needle and thread, then I better get to it, right?!
That being said, I still plan on keeping this blog up, including the occasional Thrift Style Thursday post (I’m still a thrift shopper after all). But, I do want to share my journey, and, of course, all of my makes! Speaking of which, I’ve got my brother’s wedding coming up in early October and since I couldn’t find anything that I wanted to wear at the stores, I decided to make my outfit instead!
I didn’t have a very clear idea of what I wanted to wear until I went to the fabric store and fell in love with the prettiest blue embossed fabric. I just knew that I wanted a high waist skirt and a top with lace, something with just a hint of “Cinderella” to it!
I got home from the fabric store and almost immediately sketched out a full skirt with box pleats, and a double layer crop top with the iridescent blue underneath and white lace over the top. I am still working out the exact shape I want for the top, but the skirt is coming along nicely. :)
I’ve also got another project in the works for October. The little girl that I babysit, Ruby, is going to be the flower girl in a wedding this Halloween and she gets to choose whatever costume she wants to wear. Her choice is the fairy Iridessa from the Disney Fairies series. In case you’re not familiar with Iridessa (am I the only one whose seen every Disney Fairy movie on Netflix??), here is what Iridessa looks like:
And here is the concept I came up with for Ruby’s “Fancy Iridessa” flower girl costume:
Ruby was so excited to see what I came up with for her dress and to consult on the design and how she wants it to look. We also had a ton of fun going to the fabric store together to pick out the perfect yellows and golds for the costume. I can’t wait to get started on this costume for her – it’s going to be a lot of work, but also a really fun challenge for me, too!
So, there you have it – the two big sewing projects I’m working on at the moment! I am pretty much ecstatic to be working on sewing again!!
This means, though, that I will most likely have to make some sacrifices with my time, such as fewer blog posts, etc. But it is so worth it to feel like I am moving forward in my goals and really focusing on making one of my dreams a reality. It is a little bit terrifying to be admitting all of this “out loud,” but I am also really excited about the work that is in progress. ;)
As always, and from the bottom of my heart, thanks for reading! :)
