5 Hairstyles for Growing Out a Pixie

September 8, 2015

I’m sharing FIVE quick and easy hairstyles for growing out a pixie cut!  Oh, and did I mention that there’s a video, too?!  I’m pretty excited about this (as if you couldn’t tell)!

I put together a short video sharing some simple hairstyles that I use whenever my hair starts getting a little too long.  These hairstyles are great for that weird not-long-enough-for-a-ponytail-but-long-enough-to-get-in-your-face phase.  You know that one…?  Perfect for when you want your hair pulled back from your face or you just want to give that shapeless in-between hair some interest and style!

Oh, and the best part is, these hairstyles are quick – they take practically no time at all!  (Though, I will admit, a couple of them might require a little more practice than others.)  So, let’s get to it!

As you can see in the video, the five hairstyles are pretty simple, but definitely effective.  The braid probably takes me the most time, and it took some practice to get it down pat, but it’s one of my favorites!  Braids are so popular, it’s fun to incorporate a little french braid with a longer pixie.

A similar style is the roll or twist, which looks a lot like the braid, but is much easier to pull off since no actual braiding is required.  Just grab small sections of hair, twisting each new section away from your face and adding it to the roll.

The pinned back sides and one-sided styles are pretty much staples for me as soon as my hair starts getting in my face and bugging me.  Once it gets a little longer, however, I love my cheat “half up / half down” look.  This was actually one of my favorite ways to wear my hair when I had actual long hair, too, so it’s great to be able to recreate it with some bobby pins or a small hair clip.

Of course, long hair never lasts long for me – it just drives me crazy – and eventually, I always end up cutting it back into a close cropped pixie!  But I hope my five hairstyles for growing out a pixie help some of you keep your resolve.  You can do it!

….Or there’s always my solution, which is to stick with my tried and true pixie cut!  What can I say?  I can’t help it if I love my pixie hair!  ;)

This was super helpful! I’ve been growing out my hair since the beginning of the year, and my bangs are just starting to get kind of annoying, I’ll have to give these looks a try!

Hi Leyla! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my blog, thanks so much!! Volunteering at a charity shop sounds like it could be fun, though I’m pretty sure I’d want to do more shopping than working! ;)
Glad you liked the video, thanks!! :)

This was so adorable! Great job on the video. I love twisting/braiding back my bangs, especially in the summer. Otherwise they’re just in the way! The pixie cut totally suits you :)
