I am really excited about this week’s Thrift Style Thursday post because it gave me the opportunity to share one of my all-time favorite thrift finds – a vintage plaid dress! This week’s theme is “The Grandest Decade” brought to us by our newest member, Amalia of Second Breakfast, and she challenged us to style our favorite fifties look!
For today’s theme, I had only one dress in mind – my vintage plaid dress. I found this dress at a local consignment shop before it became cool and therefore overrun with hipsters (says the hipster). I’m not sure exactly what decade the dress is from because I haven’t been able to dig up much info from the tag, but it is definitely authentic vintage, and it’s definitely one of my favorites.
This dress is also in need of some serious TLC with a few seams starting to come loose and only one belt loop left intact. I don’t mind, though, because the bright red plaid, the row of buttons down one side and that authentic vintage flair that’s so hard to replicate make this dress irreplaceable in my eyes. It can also be a bit of a challenge to style, however, without looking too costume-y. Today, I opted for modern accessories, including casual flats, for an updated fun look. What do you think??
The details: vintage plaid dress (local consignment) // woven belt (thrifted) // slip-on perforated flats (Target) // black triangle necklace (KompanyKay) // chunky quartz bracelet (WalMart) // vintage black & gold ring (hand-me-down) // black stud earrings (H&M)
Don’t forget to check out the rest of the Thrift Style Thursday crew – especially our host, Amalia – to see how they’re rocking the nifty fifties style!
