It’s the third Tuesday of the month, so you know what that means right?? It’s Monthly Mani time! I am super excited about today’s “Artist Inspired” theme because the sky is the limit this month! I chose to go with a pop art theme for my nails, specifically inspired by artist Roy Lichtenstein. For the subject of my mini canvases, I chose to celebrate Earth Day (coming up this Friday!) with my Pop Art Earth Day nails!

Pop art is one of my favorite types of fine art – from Andy Warhol to Wayne Thiebaud, I love the bright colors, modern aesthetic, deceptive simplicity and sometimes-lighthearted-often-poignant commentary. My Roy Lichtenstein inspired nails feature a comic book print type design with action bubbles, block letters, and mini polka dots. I’m not going to lie, you guys, I am pretty much obsessed!

Here’s how I did it:

Step 1 – Start with a white base, or, a blank white canvas. ;)

Step 2 – Write your block letters in the color of your choice. I used a blue nail art pen to write the letters. For the “Earth” / “O” in LOVE, I used a dotting tool to create a green circle and then used the blue nail art pen to draw the “oceans.” I also used the nail art pen to draw dots on the thumb and the dotting tool to create the green dots.

Step 3 – The next step is to outline the block letters in black. I actually cheated for this step and used a fine tip Sharpie pen to outline the letters and the Earth / O.

Step 4 – To finish off the design, I created the action bubbles with the black Sharpie, and then filled in the rest of the nails with my pink nail art pen. I created a bunch of tiny dots to complete the pop art / comic book look!
