I know summer supposedly ended and it is officially fall and all that, but this being Southern California, that hasn’t exactly happened. It is getting dark earlier, and there is the occasional light breeze, but it has been over 90 degrees for the past FIVE DAYS! Ugh! It’s hot and gross and I’ve basically been dreaming of cold weather and cozy sweaters. My solution: floral culotte shorts and a breezy white top!
The floral culotte shorts are a recent find from thredUP that I scored for less than $5! I got them because I’ve been wanting to try the loose, lingerie/culotte shorts trend without spending a whole lot. I also loved the colors and the large, tropical floral print – another trend I wanted to try, tropical! These were actually little long when I first tried them on, so I hemmed them several inches shorter and now, I love them! So light and comfortable, perfect for the super hot weather we’ve been suffering.
One of my favorite things about thrift shopping is the ability to try out new trends without spending a ton of money. Sometimes I’m just not sure if a new trend is really going to work for me or my personal style. This is another reason I really love thredUP, because I can search for (and actually find) specific items, which doesn’t often happen at the thrift store. I will admit the prices are higher than typical thrift store prices, but you can also score some great brands and really high quality items.
The details: white blouse (Old Navy) floral culotte shorts (Exhileration via thredUP) // gold slip-on’s (AE via Marshall’s) // sunglasses (Target)
The verdict: I am definitely keeping these shorts, and I even found a cute pattern so I can sew myself another pair (or more)! Because I hemmed this pair, they look a little less like culottes, but the longer length didn’t work for my proportions. I’m thinking if I make myself another pair, I’ll add more volume to the shorts so they have that skirt effect.
How do you feel about the culotte trend? Would you try a pair of floral culotte shorts??
As always, thanks for reading! :)
